Current Shampoo: Head and Shoulders 2-in-1

As promised, here's the review of my current shampoo...

Now a great deal of naturals/loc'd ladies are anti-commercial brands because of their SLS and parabens. I used to be the same way. I am now at the point where I like to use what works; be it natural or commercial. For my danduff, this stuff works! And it smells a whole lot better than tea tree oil. Which, by the way, never worked for me. None of those essential oil blends did. Boo!

Head & Shoulders 2 in 1 is genius. I don't know why I never thought about using or making a 2 in 1 before. A lot of loc'ers stay far away from creamy shampoos/conditioners.

Some say they may contribute to build-up. BUT...I haven't had a build-up issue since visiting my loctician. I have used this shampoo twice and it rinsed thoroughly both times.

To apply it, I rinse my hair and make sure it's soaking wet. I dump a good size dollop on the top of my head and gather all of the locs around it. The shampoo lathers well but it's not TOO lather-y. See...

I let it sit for a good 2-3 minutes. I rinse and repeat.

One of the things that I think helps prevent build-up when rinsing the hair is a strong shower head. The one I have has good 5-6 pressures. I turn it on the highest to blast the shampoo out of the hair. It is as hot as I can stand it. What I'm left with are sparkling locs.

But at the same time, they aren't crunchy or brittle. They are soft and feel well-conditioned. The latter is a must since I have color treated hair. Not to mention I've been spending a lot of time outside lately and the sun can't be that cool for my hair.

I can't say I like how the stuff smells. It isn't "medicinal" but it isn't terribly fragrant either. I suppose this is a good thing as a crap load of fragrances on a dry scalp can only make the dandruff flare up even more.

It really really works well for my locs, y'all. I'm excited! Too add a little more moisture (and smell) to the locs, I spray Oyin Handmade's Greg Juice all over. Happy locs!

The itchies aren't as bad when I use this. I still get a little dandruff after the second week of washing. But this is a HUGE improve. I'm usually battling dandruff a few days after washing. Maybe with prolonged use, my scalp will get better. Only time will tell!

I still like to use castile soap but since I'm on this mission to have a healthier scalp, I have to use products that are specifically designed to help treat it.

Thanks a ton to Rayne for this recommendation!

Of course you know where to find it, drugstores, grocery stores, Target, Wal-Mart, etc. It wasn't more than $6.

Sometimes I think naturals and locked folk alike freak out too much about commercial products that may contain things that are "bad" for your hair. If used in moderation, it isn't going to do harm, and if it works for you, then use it! My hair personally can't handle commercial products, since I became natural I found that olive oil, coconut oil, water, and aloe vera gel is all I need to make my hair healthy and happy, but I know plenty of people who wear locs/natural hair and use commercial products and they say it works for them, and that's the most important, gotta use what works for you!

I know I don't have locs, so my comment won't really matter, but I swear by H&S shampoos! I have dandruff, so I know how irritating it is, but this stuff really helps and from my experience, makes your scalp almost dandruff-free after using if for some time.

OMG B your locs have gotten so long and they look great. I know your pain with the dandruff issues. I'm glad you've found something that works. I've been using organix tea tree mint and its been amazing when switched off with my pantene for dandruff. I hope your scalp continues to cooperate

I have to agree with you on this one. Head and Shoulders is a must for me during the Winter months when my scalp is extra dry

Here's my question....Would you recommend this for someone who is newly locking? I'm just over a month in and I do use H&S shampoo on my scalp and often a different shampoo on my locs as I find the H&S poo to be drying. Do you think the 2 in 1 would slow the locing process in anyway?

Mimi---> Oh no! I definitely would not be using this if I was in my first month of loc'ing. But then again it depends on how your locs were installed and your hair texture. I don't think using this would "slow" the loc'ing process but I've always heard that loc'ers just stick to clear shampoos and conditioners. I'd consult with a professional on that one!

As a serious dry scalped chick, I gotta use head & shoulders as well. Hadn't grabbed the 2 in 1 but will give it a try.

Now is it just me or does one need more than a coin sized amount of shampoo to get a good lather? I suppose the thicker the hair, the more you might need to get it clean.

Also, I was JUST about to try Castle Soap...to which I will not now that you've brought this up. Thanks for the info!

Signed, Loc'd & Lovely™ 7yrs STRONG!

i use this shampoo in between the natural Aubry Organics that I use on a regular basis. It is used for hair regrowth and for helping thinning hair which I have. I have never experienced the build-up from it either. You can read more about its benefits to thinning hair and regrowth of hair at the web site provided below.

La'Shón----> Your locs are amazing! And yes ma'am...I use more than a dime size amount. This stuff doesn't create a rich rich lather so you actually need a little more. I've only used it twice and I've used up half of the bottle.

Hibiscus Niki---> I've heard fabulous things about Aubry Organics. When I run out of something, I'm going to try it. Off to check it out. Thanks lovely!

I'm so glad you reviewed this!

I have terrible dandruff and an itchy scalp, so I really need something for it. I'm definitely gonna have to give this a try.

Btw, your hair is still looking lovely : )

I try to use natural products as well, but sometimes that always doesn't work. Dandruff shampoos that have worked for me in the past are Nizoral (which is great stuff!) and Sulfur 8, I just started using the Sulfur 8it seems to be helping but I believe the Nizoral works better. ANyhow your locks look great, I believe that locks look lovely after they have been shampooed!
