Got locs? Denied!!

This pisses me off to no end. Like...it's bad. Granted companies like Six Flags have the right to decide who they want to represent their company but that doesn't make me, a loc rocker, feel any better about this. I actually feel like writing an entire dissertation on it but I won't. What do y'all think?

I think it shows a level of extreme cultural ignorance, in my opinion.
I live in MD and have been to the six flags before and it is HOOD!!! I have seen workers with all kindsa tatts, pants sagging, hair colors, etc. Not to mention locs are such a FAD( ugh) in the MD/DC area. Errry body and they momma got 'em! I am completely shocked and appalled to hear that THIS Six Flags is denying employment for locs.
I know there is still some resistance in corporate America and the military , but silly me thought that society was moving to a place of acceptance and enlightenment when it came to natural hair. SMH...
I think this is awful...but am I surprised? No. I've heard other companies/jobs that do this and it's really sad.
I'm actually surprised. I could have sworn I saw people that worked at the particular six flags with locs. I've heard of men/boys not being able to work at certain places with locs/dreads/cornrows but not women. My son goes to a private school and the boys there have to have short hair.
@ Candace, one of the women said she used to work there WITH locs and was asked to come back, but when they saw her they said no because of them. That's why I am so confused as to where this all came from. PLENTY of their employees were loc'd up in the past; this is a new decision to enforce this policy.
I don't know why they decided to bring about this new practicing of the policy but I can see the reason behind the policy if that makes sense.
It's kind of like some policies against hair dying. While not everyone takes it all out there and extreme, some people do so it's a all or none. Not everyone fashions their locs into a work appropriate style. So since some can't, no one gets to wear locs. :(
I'm curious to know if there have been some changes in upper management recently...
Good question, EmberRose. Somethin' tells me nothing has changed though. :(
I live in MD too, about 5mins away from this park. You go there, all you SEE is dreads- in, around, the park and the people who live in that county alllll have dreads, most I mean- girls and guys. At one point, that is all you would see working there and going there. I wonder how that will play out because that is a lot of people fired and probably a lot of people who will no longer visit the park. It is sad...
