A dear reader of mine posed this question to me. She wanted to know how to get rid of those bumps. What bumps you ask? Those.
Or maybe these...
Do you see them? Those little bumpy indents? You may or MAY NOT have them. But here's how you get rid of them...
You can't. No seriously, you can not. This is simply how your hair loc'd. For some, it may be a result from combining (that's me) and for others, it may be due to interlocking or starting the locs with 2-strand twists. Whatever the reason, learn how to embrace the bumps because they aren't going anywhere soon.
Locs will never be uniform. One will always look different than the other. And I think that's what makes them so beautiful. I love the little bumpy parts of my locs. It gives them character.
Any of you have bumpy locs? Do they bug you or not so much?

Hey B... the thick fat buds in my hair my stylist down and it made a world of difference. now to maintain, I do it myself. my pics are medium size and can swell fast so it helps.
hi b! yeah, i have a slew of bumps on my locs. sosme of them are from when i had them maintained by a "loctician" that i believe palmrolled a bit too tightly and kinked the loc. some of them i was able to work out before the hair firmly loc'd and others just didn't come out. oh well, i love my locs anyway! many blessings to ya, sis!
I have them, especially in the front where my hair is a different texture and the hair was uneven. One thing I have noticed is as my locs grow out, the bumps seem to be growing out as well.
man I have a ton of lumpy bumbies in my babies. I'm ok with them for the most part, but there are some that bunched badly and now the ends are disturbing to me, so when they grow out some more I'll most likely chop those problem (talking wonky see through with all manner of nuttiness) ends off.
Great post! In the 2nd pic her loc looks fine to me. I will play the angel's advocate and say that there is an option to fixing a bunched lock. I made a post about this back in 2008, so maybe you can pass it on to her and see if it will help her. :-) It's called "How to fix bunching" and the link is below:

I have the same... I never really looked at it as an issue. I figured it was the texture of my hair that may have contributed to those unique "bumbies" as Sistah YBW named them..
LOC ON THO!!
I have a ton of them and they are honestly one of the reasons that I have been tempted to cut them off and start over. I feel like if I had take better care of them, I wouldn't have the bumps. But I am learning to embrace my hair again (bumps and all) so the idea is gone again...for now.
Just about all of my locks are bumpy/bunched. So much so it looks like I have a braidout! It used to bother me. Now I just let them do their thing and that makes both of us happy! peace~robinc
OK..i meant to say in my comment that my stylist CUT the larger buds down and i do as well for maintenance because they can swell. the smaller ones like in your second pic, i don't touch them. off to read about 'bunching'!
